Materials Inspector

Responsibilities

• Perform field sampling and testing of construction materials including soils, aggregates, asphalt, and concrete.
• Conduct density testing, compaction testing, and materials sampling in accordance with the VDOT Materials Manual of Instructions (MOI).
• Document materials testing results and maintain testing records.
• Cook materials testing with project inspection staff and contractor personnel.
• Verify materials incorporated into the project meet VDOT specifications and material acceptance requirements.
• Maintain calibration and operation of testing equipment including nuclear density gauges.
• Assist with documentation of test results for project records and pay estimate verification.

Requirements

• Minimum 3–7 years of experience in materials inspection or materials testing.
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I certification.
• Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification.
• NICET Level II or III certification in Construction Materials Testing preferred.
• VDOT Soils and Aggregate Compaction Certification preferred.
• VDOT Asphalt Field Level I Certification preferred.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass drug screening and background check.
• Valid driver's license required.
