Materials Examiner and Identifier (Fork Lift Operator)

Duties

• Helps receive, examine, and determine the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials.
• Reviews disposal turn-in documents and compares data against property to ensure correct information and proper documentation.
• Visually inspects usable property for signs of condition and determines its acceptability.
• Determines condition and special handling requirements, such as for hazardous materials, precious metals, security, DEMIL, and special focus items, and assigns appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.
• Verifies demilitarization codes, challenges questionable items, and segregates property requiring DEMIL for proper storage.
• Ensures proper certification is attached to turn-in documents when demilitarized by host or generating activities.
• Performs special and periodic inventory of property, re-palletizing or relocating as necessary.
• Operates forklifts and related materials handling equipment to move, load, and unload materials, supplies, and equipment.

• Appointment subject to favorable suitability or fitness determination and completion of background check.

Qualifications

• To qualify, applicants must demonstrate through experience and training the quality of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which they are applying.
• Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations.
• Physical effort: Performs moderate to heavy lifting, operates forklifts, and works in various environments.
• Working conditions: Exposure to physical hazards, varying weather conditions, and safety precautions.
