Duties
- Help Receives, verifies, sorts and classifies, warehouses, and issues a variety of excess surplus property.
- Conducts extensive review, research, verification and receipt of a variety of routine and complex property.
- Employs Federal Cataloging Procedures to properly validate or change data elements.
- Certifies that items are eligible for sale.
- Reviews disposal turn-in document (DTID) accompanying material.
- Compares data against property to assure correct information including proper documentation (e.g., stock number, nomenclature, quantity, unit of issue, disposal authority code, DEMIL and condition code).
- Visually inspects usable property for obvious signs of condition and determines acceptability.
- Determines condition and reportability and special handling requirements (e.g., hazardous material, precious metals, security, DEMIL, Special focus items, etc.) and assigns appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.
- Verifies accuracy of demilitarization codes, takes action to challenge questionable items/codes, and maintains segregated storage of property requiring DEMIL.
- Safeguards and handles hazardous property.
- Performs daily inspection and maintenance and completes appropriate forms.
- Operates forklifts and related materials handling equipment to move, load and unload, stack or un-stack palletized materials, supplies, and equipment.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
- Security Requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive.
- Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt.
- Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

Qualifications
- To qualify for a Materials Examiner and Identifier (Fork Lift Operator) your resume and supporting documentation must support:
- Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations.
- Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job.
Physical Conditions
- Climb stacks of property during inspection, pre-receiving and receiving and verification operations, necessitating considerable kneeling, crawling, bending, walking and stooping.
- Physical handling of property will be routine.
- Incumbent must be able to lift property weighing up to 50 pounds and shift/relocate other heavy materials using appropriate material handling equipment.
Work Environment
- Work is done inside and outside for long duration (through breaks, etc. as necessary) to complete immediate tasks.
- Inside work is performed in warehouses which may be drafty or unheated.
- Outside work is subject to inclement weather.
- Discomfort is experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators, goggles or face masks.
- Worker may be exposed to hazardous vapors, liquids, powders and solids and the possibility of cuts and bruises.
- May be subject to hazards of working close to moving equipment, for example, forklifts, trucks and conveyor lines.
