About the Role
This position involves analyzing, researching, designing, and developing materials and their fabrication processes to optimize their use in engineering designs for structures, systems, and subsystems. You will apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop specifications for metallic, nonmetallic, and composite materials, as well as their fabrication and assembly processes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize materials for engineering applications.
- Create material and processing specifications, fabrication, and assembly processes.
- Analyze and apply material properties, design allowables, and quality engineering specifications.
- Perform material analyses, including failure analysis, life predictions, and requirement specifications for components, systems, and subsystems.
- Review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
- Deliver and manage assigned projects, collaborating with stakeholders to achieve desired results.
- Act as a mentor to colleagues or direct the work of lower-level professionals.
- Work independently on larger, moderately complex projects with general supervision.
- Set objectives for your job area to meet project milestones, contributing to cross-functional assignments as needed.
- Address general problems and recommend enhancements to systems and processes.
- Communicate primarily with internal contacts to share information, status, and needs, while occasionally interacting with external contacts for problem-solving.
- Provide guidance and assistance to entry-level professionals or support staff.
Requirements
- Practical knowledge and demonstrated competence in the job area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
- University degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 0 years of experience.
