About the role
The Materials Engineer is responsible for evaluating materials and processes to manufacture materials for use in products that must meet specialized design and performance specifications. Develop new uses for known materials. Includes analyzing product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
Responsibilities
- Perform reverse engineering on non-production parts in order to develop production specifications and Quality Test Procedures, as well as Parts Manufacturing Authority reports for the FAA.
- Conduct Research and Development Analysis of materials to assist with Business Unit’s New Product Development Process.
- Provide technical support to customers and laboratory staff when needed.
- Assist on materials analysis process for production parts to ensure conformity to specifications (grain size and flow, abusive machining, hardness, chemistry, etc.) when needed.
- Assist with development and write-up of Quality Test Procedures detailing required preparation and testing of incoming materials when needed.
- Keep current with the latest in materials analysis techniques and equipment technologies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
