About the role
Full time, 40 hours per week. Schedule: 5 days a week Monday–Saturday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; occasional weekends.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent with one year of experience in purchasing, shipping, or receiving materials.
- Associate’s degree preferred.
Essential Functions
- Performs accurate PeopleSoft on-line purchase requests while adhering to departmental budgets; controls operating room costs and maintains optimum inventory levels.
- Ensures service-specific, OR par-stock and generic supplies are properly maintained in designated locations for distribution throughout all sites in the Operating Room.
- Rotates inventory, eliminates expired and unused supplies, improves inventory turns, conducts monthly cycle counts, and keeps the inventory database accurate and up to date for all current and newly added supplies.
- Works with vendors/distributors to return low-usage, obsolete and/or overstocked supplies for exchange or credit; helps resolve manufacturer recalls promptly to promote patient safety; obtains appropriate FDA approvals and Medicare charge codes when necessary.
- Investigates and resolves problems associated with orders: backorders, errors, miscommunication, lost shipments, price discrepancies and invoice discrepancies.
- Maintains clean and orderly work areas; organizes and maintains all par-stock locations within Surgical Services; follows Joint Commission standards and Fire Marshall requirements.
- Collaborates with co-workers to promote a cooperative work environment; demonstrates and supports Lifewings and ICARE principles; serves as a teacher and mentor to others.
- Schedules meetings with vendors and other hospital department managers as needed; ensures accurate and complete accounting of all incoming freight.
- Ensures prompt processing of items in the following order: perishable items, express packages, and ground deliveries.
- Performs additional job duties that may require transport of materials throughout the facility, including mail and linen.

- Possible exposure to infections and contagious diseases.

- Subject to cuts from opening boxes.
- Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient and unit elements.
- Subject to many interruptions and occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
- Frequently works behind the Red Line (Sterile Equipment).
- Required protective equipment: eye/face protection, OR greens, sterile/non-sterile gloves, shoe covers.
