Material Support Technician- Shipping

About the Role

Perform a wide variety of material support activities that assure the timely delivery of high-quality products to the customer. Tasks include product conveyance, operation of material handling equipment, material support machinery, and clerical or record activities involving material flow of all goods and parts.

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, supporting Spirit’s Commercial Business Units. Spirit Commercial designs and builds commercial aerostructures, including fuselages, pylons, nacelles, and wing components, with a focus on innovative composite and aluminum manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

• Perform all tasks involved in receiving, locating, issuing, kitting, preparation, and movement of materials (raw materials, tools/tooling, parts, drawings, equipment, surplus property, and hazardous materials) to facilitate production or support functions, including maintaining Inventory Record Accuracy.
• Use power or hand-operated tools and equipment; check hardware and tools for visible damage; route broken, worn, or obsolete hardware and tools for disposition.
• Open containers, identify weight and count of contents, and verify the quality of incoming hardware.
• Operate information systems required to perform assigned tasks.
• Utilize proper equipment and devices to protect parts, equipment, and structures.
• Load and unload air cargo as required.
• Inspect material handling equipment before and after operation; perform routine maintenance (e.g., topping off fluids, checking tire pressure).
• Report major malfunctions and unsafe equipment; refuel equipment as needed.
• Verify part numbers, part count, and similar information for in-process material.
• Communicate effectively with management, support functions, employees, vendors, and shipping personnel.
• Train other employees in the same job classification as requested or required.
• Perform tasks related to kitting paints, lubricants, adhesives, solvents, or other materials/chemicals using weight scales, sight-lines, or solvent bottle filling machines.
• Order, receive, kit, maintain records, store, check, issue, inventory, ship, and release all goods.
• Perform recording, posting, filing, coordinating changes, gathering and furnishing information, releasing, and routing orders.
• Inspect and clear tool boxes; issue hold-out notices as required.
• Maintain and clean equipment, such as respirators, tool grinder wheels, drills, and reamers.
• Build containers, package goods, and prepare container overpacks with associated documentation and system updates.
• Ensure proper handling and packaging of hazardous materials per domestic and international regulations.
• Operate equipment to prepare parts/material for appropriate disposition.
• Cut, seal, tag, measure, wrap, stencil, tape, and label materials as required.
• Set up and operate box-making machines to fabricate standard and nonstandard boxes; stamp and store boxes.
• Operate motive power vehicles (e.g., rider/stacker) to move, position, and stage parts, equipment, tools, and materials.

Requirements

• Must be willing and able to work any shift.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• This position must meet export control compliance requirements; a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required (includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with shipping/receiving, stocking, or inventory.
• Experience operating pallet jacks, forklifts, or overhead cranes.
• Familiarity with SAP software.

Pay

Starting pay: $21.39/hour, with potential to earn up to $35.50/hour in accordance with the relevant collective bargaining agreement. Pay is based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

Kansas Tax Credit: Eligible employees may receive a $5,000 state of Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years.

This is a union-represented position with variable shifts.
