About The Department
Material Source partners with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to obtain supplies for its art-making facilities. The department operates multiple storefronts and storage spaces, providing easy access to art materials across campus. The position involves overseeing these operations.
Responsibilities
- Staff Administration
- Hires, trains, supervises, and provides leadership for student employees.
- Schedules student workers to maintain regular hours.
- Reconciles Point of Sale (POS) transactions and investigates discrepancies.
- Provides additional training to students as needed.
- Orders and Delivery Coordination
- Plants orders for materials throughout the semester.
- Manages logistics of ordering, receiving, and distributing bulk materials.
- Collaborates with vendor and contractor staff to ensure materials are received and moved safely.
- Assists in distribution of stock to storefronts.
- Branding and Appearance
- Maintains consistent branding for Material Source.
- Maintains storefronts and ensures items are properly packaged, labelled, and ready for customers.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One to two years of relevant experience in a visual arts studio, university art department, or similar environment.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive.
- Familiarity with Word, Excel, and database software.
- Familiarity with a variety of art making and construction materials.
- Physical requirements include almost daily lifting up to 100 lbs., frequent bending, twisting, pushing, and climbing.
