About the Role

What if your deep expertise in materials science could directly shape how AI reasons through some of the most complex problems in modern science? We're looking for Materials Science specialists — Masters and PhD level — to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models working on semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, and beyond.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and domain experts who want to put their knowledge to work in a new and high-impact way. No prior AI experience needed — just rigorous scientific thinking and deep subject matter expertise.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and review advanced materials science problems with real-world relevance and scientific depth
  • Apply your expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or related specializations to design complex, meaningful problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific reasoning for accuracy, rigor, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to improve how AI models approach and solve materials science challenges
  • Ensure all deliverables meet the highest standards of scientific accuracy and communicative precision

Who You Are

  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in semiconductor materials, molecular modeling, or adjacent research areas
  • Comfortable coding in Python or MATLAB — from research applications to data analysis
  • Exceptionally clear written communicator with strong attention to scientific detail
  • Self-directed and reliable when working independently in an asynchronous environment
  • Based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality review, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Background in applied or computational materials science research
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language model evaluation as an end user
  • Experience communicating complex scientific concepts to multidisciplinary audiences
  • Why Join Us

    • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
    • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
    • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
    • Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and reasons through advanced materials science
    • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
