About the role

Worthington Steel in Porter, IN is hiring Material Handlers to support our packaging operations. We’re not just hiring for a job — we’re looking for people who want to build a career and advance within our company.

Responsibilities

• Play an important role in keeping production running safely and efficiently.
• Day-to-day work includes Banding, packaging, and preparing materials for shipment.
• Moving steel materials using forklifts and/or cranes.
• Supporting production lines by staging materials and removing finished product.
• Assisting with basic machine setup and operation.
• Tracking and labeling materials accurately.
• Keeping work areas clean and safe.

Requirements

• Must-have: Ability to work on your feet and handle physical, repetitive tasks; Basic math and reading skills; Attention to detail and commitment to safety; Willingness to learn and work as part of a team; Excellent attendance; Desire to grow, take initiative, and build a long-term career.
• Nice-to-have (not required): Previous manufacturing or warehouse experience; Mechanical aptitude; Experience reading a tape measure or using banding tools; Forklift or crane experience.

Qualifications

Starting pay $20.00/hour, $2.00/hour shift premium for 2nd and 3rd shift. Paid training on 1st shift (7am–3pm). Clear path to advancement — many employees grow into skilled roles or leadership positions. A strong safety-focused, team-oriented work environment.
