Material Handling Equipment Technician Lead

This position is a Day Shift - Monday through Friday.

$30.00 to $36.00 per hour based on experience

Responsibilities

• Performs the duties of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Technician III
• Performs moderate supervisory roles when Director Fleet and Facility Maintenance / Facility MHE Maintenance Supervisor are not accessible
• Demonstrates clear and concise decision-making skills related to MHE repair and availability of fleet for operations teams
• Provides clear communication and reporting to Director Fleet and Facility Maintenance / Facility MHE Maintenance Supervisor on a daily basis
• Operates competently within designated parameters and communicates upward before exceeding those parameters
• Mentors, teaches, and shares expertise with MHE Technician I, II, and III to aid in their development to positions of greater responsibility
• Demonstrates an understanding and adherence to all work safety policies, procedures, and governing requirements
• Proficient in electrical meter testing
• Knowledge of controls and electric (AC - alternating current & DC - direct current low voltage)
• Understanding and working knowledge of PLCs and PLC troubleshooting
• Motors and motor starter knowledge (AC & DC)
• Contactor and relay knowledge and repair
• Completes electrical repairs and welding projects as needed
• Maintains power material handling equipment (MHE) including:
  • Preventive maintenance (PM) of MHE fleet
  • Checking, draining, and filling oil levels as needed
  • Checking, adjusting, or replacing all belts and chains as needed
  • Checking and troubleshooting electrical controls issues
  • Replacing motors and controls
  • Safety checks
  • PM per manufacturers recommendations
• Knowledge of:
  • Hydraulic systems/schematics/components
  • Electrical systems/schematics (both AC and DC systems)
  • Drive motors, power amps, electrical controls including PLC systems
  • Mechanical systems including transmissions, drive units, differentials, braking systems, telescopic masts, reach mechanisms, steering systems, suspension systems
• Completes all special projects associated with building or grounds, including but not limited to:
  • Moving furniture or fixtures
  • Changing lights
  • Light carpentry
  • Painting
  • Light plumbing
  • Changing light bulbs
  • Repair of minor electrical devices
• Assists the battery technicians with duties including:
  • Battery charger repairs
  • Battery changes for MHE
  • Repair of plugs and tips of batteries and chargers
  • Watering and washing batteries
  • Acid spill clean up
  • Battery rack cleaning
  • Battery area sweeping and cleaning
  • Setting equalizing charge on batteries
• Participates in departmental on-call program, as designated
• Responsible for logging time and materials into the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) on a daily basis in the form of work orders, PMs, etc.
• Responsible for housekeeping, clean up of all maintenance areas/work areas on a daily basis
• Maintains all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order
• Adheres to all safety requirements and wears the proper Personal Protective Equipment required by the job
• Responds to emergency situations to ensure employee and facility safety
• Champions overall safety in the department
• Complies with OSHA, and other local, state, and federal regulations
• Adheres to Organization and the Facilities Department policies and procedures including appropriate attire, grooming, and attendance
• Interacts effectively, builds relationships, and demonstrates a high level of cooperation
• Trains and mentors MHE Tech I and II

Requirements

• Must have experience repairing forklifts and industrial equipment
• Expressed desire to advance to management positions of greater authority

Qualifications

• Education:
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Tech school or equivalent is preferred (2 years)
• Experience: Six years in an MHE maintenance position; or equivalent combination of education and related experience
• Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
  • Must possess a valid state Driver’s License and provide proof of liability coverage meeting Company standards
  • Complete a Sysco-approved defensive driving program
  • Obtain a Powered Industrial Equipment Certification from Sysco within 3 months
  • MHE 8-hour maintenance tech certificate from MHE manufacturer (e.g., Crown, Raymond, Hyster, etc.)
  • Trade electrical I & II training (preferred)
• Professional Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

Working Conditions

• Occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts and may be required to work in confined spaces
• Works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call
• May occasionally travel to other Operating Companies or the corporate office as business needs dictate (e.g., training, business continuation, etc.)
• Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and confined spaces
• Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
• Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
