Material Handler - Yard

About the role

The Material Handler plays a key role in the supply chain and logistics, ensuring products are available to the team when needed and that shipments are on time and meet quality standards. This position is essential for maintaining orderly production and distribution by managing materials, supplies, and finished products.

Responsibilities

• Move, store, and manage materials for transformers in compliance with safety requirements and company policies.
• Pull orders from inventory, deliver production materials and supplies, and stage finished products for distribution.
• Locate materials and supplies by verifying items listed on production orders.
• Maintain in-process inventory at work centers by delivering and opening materials and supplies.
• Document materials, record units delivered, and note their locations.
• Prepare finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing product.
• Maintain material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move items or signal operators to move materials.
• Keep inventory, loading areas, and machinery clean.
• Receive and inspect incoming materials and products for quality, quantity, and accuracy.
• Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts and investigate discrepancies.
• Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, or supply rooms.
• Mark units with identification tags or other labeling equipment.
• Handle documentation of work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.
• Maintain inventory transactions and perform cycle counts to ensure accuracy of stock levels.
• Assist with inventory control and audits as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly workstation.
• Notify management immediately of any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or injuries.
• Adhere to all safety and environmental compliance regulations.
• Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.
• Complete other assigned duties as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; technical or vocational school preferred.
• Basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• 1-3 years of transformer experience required.
• 1-3 years of mechanical and/or electrical field experience required.
• Material handling equipment experience (forklift, crane, etc.) preferred.
• OSHA10 certification preferred.
• Proven track record in safety excellence.
• Ability to read and interpret work orders.
• Strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Cooperative attitude, strong attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment.
• Adherence to company policies and core values.
• Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
• Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

• Lift 50 lbs from floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times.
• Stand and walk for long durations.
• Bend, squat, and kneel multiple times for extended periods.
• Climb up and down a ladder multiple times.
• Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods.
• Comfortable working in heat and cold due to non-climate-controlled manufacturing facilities.
