MATERIAL HANDLER - PC - 1st Shift (13334)

About the role

Responsible for safe, damage-free, and accurate handling of materials within the plant. Supplies and moves materials to support production while meeting quality goals and environmental management system requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily safety checks for Fork Truck/Tugger, including filling out daily check sheets.
• Lift one tote/box at a time during any point of movement.
• Report any damage to racks, machines, fork trucks, and material.
• Maintain a safe working environment and perform daily 5S in assigned areas.
• Ensure PLEX/container movement tags are placed on each product.
• Keep all production lines fully stocked with material prior to the next shift, including raw forgings and plated housings.
• Fill lines with proper components/empties and move finished goods and post-heat-treat (PH) product.
• Assign PLEX numbers to incoming material and place it in the proper location/lot.
• Rotate materials in accordance with first in, first out (FIFO).
• Read manifests, pull orders, ship orders, and verify paperwork for accuracy.
• Break down forging boxes, empty cardboard bins, and dispose of trash.
• Move finished goods, inspected material, and machined housings to designated locations or shipping areas.
• Supply empty shipping containers to their proper locations.
• Support manufacturing by making bales of cardboard when the baler is full.
• Clean and organize work areas, including returning empty pallets, lids, and totes to designated locations.
• Load/unload trucks, ensuring all incoming material is placed in the proper location.
• Submit suggestions for process improvements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and ability to interpret bar graphs and SPC charts.
• Ability to apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.
• Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
• Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Authority Level

• Notify team leader or above immediately of quality and safety concerns.
• Stop process if quality level is not meeting specifications.

Training

Fork truck training and specialized training will be completed within two weeks of starting the job.
