Material Handler (Machine Shop) - 1st Shift

About the role

The Material Handler (Machine Shop) is responsible for loading, unloading, moving, and cleaning materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site.

Responsibilities

• Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Opens containers.
• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
• Installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Moves materials from storage or work sites to designated areas.
• Counts, weighs, and records the number of units of materials moved or handled on a daily production sheet.
• Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
• Operates and maintains SmartSkim, or coolant recycling system.
• Lifts heavy objects by hand or with a power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
• Cleans materials by hand or with cleaning equipment.
• Immerses objects in washing and rinsing solutions to remove debris.
• Fills tanks with water to specified levels. Pours specified quantities of soap or chemicals into water.
• Cleans work area, machines, tools, and equipment.
• Maintains equipment and working area in a clean and orderly condition.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Up to one month of related experience and/or training.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
