Material Handler (GE WEST JEFF)

Southern Industrial Constructors seeks a Material Handler for an ongoing assignment at a site in West Jefferson, NC. The site offers access to a customer cafeteria and food services and operates in a controlled environment. Benefits and paid time off are available after a 3-month employment period.

Responsibilities

• Provide necessary parts and materials to the manufacturing area in a timely manner.
• Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
• Convey materials and items from receiving to storage or other designated areas and document transactions.
• Sort and place materials or items on racks or shelves.
• Perform all kitting processes and identify and resolve any kitting discrepancies.
• Perform tasks on both docks and most RFS processes.
• Handle clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies, including hazardous materials.
• Maintain documentation and traceability of material.
• Understand and apply inventory control measures.
• Complete paperwork or forms required for receiving materials and verify delivery accuracy, resolving any discrepancies.
• Enter and maintain records in the computer, correcting errors for direct receipts.
• Work independently and foster positive teamwork practices.
• Balance multiple tasks and priorities, delegating as necessary.
• Guide and train employees through work processes.
• Perform safety inspections of work areas, equipment, and tools to ensure compliance with government regulations, customer requirements, and SIC’s safety program.
• Resolve discrepancies found through inspections.
• Complete all required safety and general job training.
• Observe SIC and client safety processes and procedures at all times.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment.

Requirements

• Forklift operating and box truck driving experience is required.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Capability to move in and around confined spaces and uneven areas.
• Adequate hearing to respond to voice commands, alerts, and job-related noises.
• Ability to safely access all areas of property and buildings.
• Effective use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Capability to perform strenuous physical demands, including standing for long periods, bending consistently, working on ladders, and in awkward body positions.
• Ability to safely operate all involved equipment and tools.

Work Environment

Conditions include working in offices, shops, busy traffic areas, freezers, and warehouses, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and adverse weather conditions.
