Material Handler - Forklift and Hi-Lo Drivers

Schedule

• 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM (10 hours per day/Monday - Thursday)
• 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM (8 hours per day/Sunday - Thursday)

About the Role

Responsible for handling all types of materials coming in and going out, within or near plant, yard, or work site; performs a combination of duties such as receiving from trucks, manually handling items by operating forklift, Hi-Lo, cart or hand truck, verifying data, quantities, weights, securing loads, distributing, and ensuring material handling is done according to necessary documentation or instruction including work orders, verbal instructions, or other forms of instruction.

The Forklift Order Puller/Picker ensures materials are placed in their proper locations and are available for use where needed. Enter data in the company ERP system as required. Must observe all safety and operational procedures, including maintaining required paperwork, safety logs, preventive maintenance logs, and checklists to meet quality and delivery expectations.

Material handlers may be assigned to other areas to perform the same essential duties from time to time. The job may require overtime, a flexible schedule, reporting early, working late, and occasional weekends.

Responsibilities

• Handles materials by operating box trucks, forklifts, Hi-Los, carts, hand trucks, or manually while observing operational, safety procedures, and company policies.
• Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near the plant, yard, or work site, from and onto trucks, pallets, trays, racks, or shelves.
• Reads work orders, production/material documents, schedules, or follows verbal instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Receives and stages inbound materials in the “inbound staging area.”
• Verifies packing and packing lists against received products for quantity, quality, and purchase orders.
• Reports discrepancies in inbound shipments to the Supply Chain Manager.
• Enters data into the company ERP system (Macola), including exact quantities received for any discrepancies.
• Moves products from the staging area to designated storage locations as indicated in Macola on the item master.
• Requests help from coworkers when handling heavier items, as load pallets and skids may be up to 35 feet long and weigh a minimum of 50 lbs.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• One (1) year of experience with forklift operation in a manufacturing environment required.
• Hi-Lo Certification preferred.
• Current certification in forklift operation is strongly preferred.

Physical Demands

• Frequently walking, using hands and fingers to handle or feel, operate, activate, inspect, place, detect, position, grasp, or squeeze.
• Stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Climbing, talking, hearing, and seeing to communicate, detect, distinguish, identify, inspect, and estimate.
• Performing frequent repetitive movements, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

• Able to work in a loud, noisy, and congested environment.
• May be exposed to extreme temperatures (hot and cold), dusty areas, and work performed inside and outside in all weather conditions.
• Must wear proper protective clothing to guard against extreme temperature conditions.
