Material Handler Feed/Tack

Essential Functions/Duties

• Receive, load, un-load, count, weigh, measure, code and store materials on or from freight vehicles.
• Maintain determined levels of inventory on the sales floor.
• Provide direct customer service and support by selling merchandise on the sales floor and assisting in customer carry-outs, stocking and restocking of merchandise.
• Move material using appropriate material handling tools and equipment including but not limited to: by-hand, hand truck, pallet jack, dolly, and/or operation of forklifts or other vehicles.
• Open and/or unwrap crates, boxes, cartons, and other containers using hammers, crowbars, cutting tools and tape.
• Wrap, seal and secure material on pallets for distribution.
• Collect, sort and/or stack such items or materials as clothes, fertilizers, tools, lawn/garden supplies, machines, feed and all other products sold by the company.
• Report any discrepancies in receiving to designated supervisor/manager.
• Place reusable items in containers, and dispose of waste by operating compactor or bailing machine.
• Perform such duties as spotting trucks, freight checking and checking in inbound freight from trucking companies and vendors.
• Affix price tags to merchandise and assist customers in making purchases.
• Stock shelves and all areas of the sales floor for maximum inventory on sales floor.
• Clean work areas and maintain equipment in an orderly manner.

Requirements

• Must have proven knowledge and experience with tack and feed.
• Must have knowledge of retail floor sales techniques.
• Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
• Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
• Ability to resolve difficult or stressful customer service issues.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Exposure to visual merchandising and product placement techniques is desired.

Required Education/Certification

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Forklift certification preferred, not required.

Other Requirements

• Frequent lifting of 25 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
• Must be able to work the majority of shift walking and standing, move merchandise and physically participate in resets, remodels and reconstruction projects.
