About the Role
The Material Handler is responsible for safely handling and staging material for production at the paint line, preparing materials for packaging of finished coils, and ensuring finished coils are properly identified and stored. This role involves daily communication with internal teams to resolve problems and achieve company goals.
Responsibilities
- Prepare materials for packaging and shipping of finished coils.
- Package finished coils safely and move them to designated storage locations.
- Verify finished goods (coils) are properly identified with an identification ticket before storage.
- Inspect finished goods for damage or visible non-conformities before moving to storage.
- Quarantine non-conforming material using the HFI process and notify Quality Control of non-conforming conditions.
- Comply with the Quality and Environmental Management System principles.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and power tools as required.
- Assume the role of payoff operator when necessary.
- Recognize metal defects.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence.
- Ability to communicate information in small group settings.
- Basic mathematical skills to calculate fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply common sense to perform work instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Problem-solving skills for standard situations involving multiple variables.
Desired Qualifications
- 6+ months of forklift experience.
- 12 months of overhead crane experience.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to walk.
- Occasionally required to stand, sit, bend, stoop, use hands to handle tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance.
- Capable of lifting a minimum of 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
- Work near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, or heat.
