About the Role

A motivated and reliable Material Handler is needed to pull, load, and receive steel materials in support of operations. The role requires strict adherence to Triple-S safe methods of work and immediate reporting of any unsafe conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Safely move steel to and from storage, production areas, loading docks, and delivery vehicles using hand tools, forklifts, overhead cranes, or other equipment.
  • Attach slings, hooks, or other devices to lift and guide loads; climb onto vehicles to tie down and release material.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds for up to 25 feet to heights of 5 feet; exert 25–50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10–20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Perform physical tasks including reaching, squatting, standing, walking up to 5 miles daily, and climbing stairs, ladders, or equipment while wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Apply proper bundling techniques and configure loads based on planned routes with multiple stops, maximizing trailer capacity without compromising safety.
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned tools and equipment (e.g., tape measure, caliper, hammer, pallet trucks, banding machine, micrometer, beam hooks, plate lifting clamps, forklift, overhead crane, and PPE). Report safety issues promptly.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including precipitation, extreme temperatures, high winds, and turbulent conditions.
  • Maintain spatial awareness to safely navigate environments with moving objects and judge distances to monitor ongoing activities.
  • Attend all required company meetings.
  • Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine assignments, material, or equipment needs.
  • Meet or exceed minimum productivity levels established by the company.
  • Plan and organize work activities independently or in a team environment.
  • Develop working knowledge of product and inventory control techniques and procedures.
  • Maintain inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations.
  • Demonstrate basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Demonstrate strong customer relations skills when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly sit; use hands/fingers to handle or feel; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

  • Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock in operations or laboratory areas.
  • Moderate noise levels, with occasional high noise due to open office environments.
