Material Handler 2nd Shift
About the Role
Work safely at all times, be aware of surroundings, and understand and comply with Pratt Industries Safety rules, operating procedures. Help hold co-workers responsible for safety-related items. Participate in the Plant Safety Committee. Follow at all times GMPs (Good Manufacturing Processes). Learn and comply with Pratt Industries quality procedures and policies to prevent bad quality from leaving the facility to the customer. Maintain strong attention to detail to catch and address poor quality early in the manufacturing process.
Perform a variety of tasks in the assigned department, potentially working in multiple areas of the plant during the week on varied projects and customer orders. Responsibilities include housekeeping and cleaning of work areas to keep them free of tripping hazards, as well as maintaining cleanliness in shared spaces such as break rooms, bathrooms, and refrigerators.
Move various sized units and products between staging areas while maintaining accurate records of each unit’s location for inventory accuracy. Perform basic forklift equipment maintenance and general housekeeping duties. Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping. Adhere to the production schedule and be available to work overtime as necessary, sometimes on short notice, including holidays.
Additional duties may be assigned by management.
Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using scanner or barcode warehouse management systems.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and housekeeping.
- Follow production schedules and work overtime as required.
- Identify and prevent quality issues from reaching the customer.
- Work in various areas of the plant as needed.
- Adhere to all safety and quality procedures and policies.
Requirements
- Must be Pratt forklift certified; previous Pratt and/or two years of forklift operation preferred.
- Experience with scanner or barcode warehouse management inventory systems preferred.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience driving and operating a forklift.
- Pass substance abuse screening according to company policy.
- High degree of attention and control to prevent damage to materials and equipment.
- Ability to multi-task, communicate positively, problem-solve, read and understand a tape measure, and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in packaging, plastics, paper, converting, warehouse, or manufacturing industries.
Skills
- Language Skills: Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy, calculate percentages, measurements, volume, and rates, and apply high school math concepts.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or graphic form and solve problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of equipment design, product layouts, production specifications, quality standards, and quality specifications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Occasionally required to sit. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, and occasionally high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
