About the role
The Material Handler works in all areas of distribution with the goal of meeting/exceeding both internal and external customers' expectations. This includes providing shipping and order fulfillment services for finished goods, inventory of materials, supplies, parts, and equipment at the Carlsbad facility.
Responsibilities
- Pick, pack, sort, arrange, count, store, and correctly process items for storage and/or shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
- Receive materials and/or finished goods on a daily basis. Verify the quality, type, and amount of materials received are correct and that the appropriate documentation is present (e.g., packing list).
- Work in a warehouse environment under various temperatures including room temperature (59–86°F), cold-room (36-46°F), and/or freezer-room (minus 4 – 23°F).
- Safely operate distribution equipment, as required.
- Stand for extended durations, lift up to 40 lbs on a regular basis, and routinely push/pull up to 40 lbs.
- Regularly climb and reach.
- Complete Life Technologies training requirements and operate within all ISO standards pertaining to site Distribution, including Control of Documents and Quality Policy.
- Interact with internal personnel, requiring good communication and customer service skills.
- Understand and interpret team metrics related to shipping, receiving, and inventory control.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years related experience; experience in logistics with a life science company preferred.
- Experience with inventory, customer service, procurement, and using units of measure.
- Experience using a computer and forklift.
- Ability to consistently and independently follow policies, procedures, and instructions, and meet schedules.
- Ability to work with others.
- Able to lift 40 lbs without assistance.
- Must be available to work any shift (with advance notice of shift change) and flexible to work varying schedules, hours, and overtime as needed.
- Occasional local travel may be required.
Environmental Conditions
- Able to work in cold rooms/freezers (-22°F/-6°C).
- Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).
- Warehouse environment with moderate to high noise levels.
- Work of a highly repetitive nature; may involve walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and handling packaged hazardous materials.
- Working at heights.
Pay
The hourly pay range for this position in California is $13.82–$21.00. This position may also be eligible for a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results.
