Material Control Foreman

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety for all personnel (employees and subcontractors) in the Yard, adhering to CORE principles
• Enforce HPSI safety procedures, rules, and regulations
• Provide leadership, instruction, and control of material control teams
• Motivate supervisors and ensure adherence to quality standards, cost controls, and schedule completion
• Provide daily feedback on work progress to the Department Manager
• Optimize work organization and issue planned target hours to supervisors
• Conduct and maintain shift turnover meetings with supervisors
• Receive, inspect, and store materials on schedule at predefined locations
• Add barcodes to materials where missing and report shortages in a timely manner, generating reorder requests
• Set up and coordinate floor stock locations for high-consumption and small materials
• Issue materials as per planned orders to production and retrieve unused materials for restocking
• Follow up on procedures for material handling, receiving, storage, and replenishment
• Assist with the computer system for controlling material transactions, including testing and initiating necessary changes
• Accomplish Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) requirements for material management
• Communicate and coordinate with Production, Planning, and Design departments to create a Just-In-Time (JIT) material issue approach
• Participate in shipbuilding projects and provide status updates on assigned tasks
• Generate regular reports on all material transactions in the shipyard
• Develop the material control department, including hiring and training personnel
• Communicate with customs clearance agents and handle deliveries for incoming materials
• Work closely with HPSI production supervisors and Turnkey Coordinator to implement JIT material issue
• Understand budgets and forecast man-hours
• Ensure maximum employee utilization through effective working hours
• Identify performance issues and implement corrective actions
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business-related field, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of professional experience in:
  • Shipyards with shipbuilding production or ship repair
  • Manufacturing of heavy steel structures
  • Production of pressure vessels, boilers, and other quality products
• Experience with automated production lines
• Experience leading supervisors and production teams
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, 3-D drawings, and technical documents
• Knowledge of safety rules and procedures
• Desirable PC skills

Work Environment

Environmental exposures are typical of heavy industrial settings, including noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes, and smoke. Work may be conducted indoors or outdoors, with potential exposure to inclement weather. The facility is tobacco-free.

Physical Demands

The role requires a range of motion sufficient for general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. Employment is contingent upon passing a medical examination. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Schedule

This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department and are determined by department schedules.
