Master Tool and Die Maker

Responsibilities

• Build new dies, repair and adjust old dies, create new designs, duplicate parts to match perfectly, form dies and roll forms, and solve problems related to dies and their components to minimize production downtime.
• Maintain equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation by sharpening, polishing, and replacing worn parts.
• Produce and evaluate test samples of products after changing or creating new dies to ensure quality.
• Collaborate with outside sources and/or Corporate Tooling to fabricate and perfect dies to specifications when in-house production is not feasible; provide blueprints and recommendations.
• Monitor production scheduling to prepare for upcoming parts and ensure all necessary components are available.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and order parts or tools as needed.
• Track and follow up on ordered dies to ensure timely delivery; inspect incoming dies and run new samples.
• Travel occasionally to customers or other American Trim facilities to observe products and operations.
• Participate in on-call rotation by carrying a pager or cell phone as scheduled by the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Completion of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Linear Measuring, and Problem Solving training.
• Certification in Press Safety.
• 5–7 years of prior experience as a Tool and Die A or B, or equivalent tool and die experience at another plant.
• Proficiency in advanced math, blueprint reading, and precision work.
• Ability to use and maintain tools and gages, including grinders, drill presses, lathes, mills, mechanical tools, gages, meters, and precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers).
• Experience with machines and equipment such as punch presses, benders, feeders, roll forms, derailers, welders, powder coaters, platers, high lifts, transfers, hoists, and conveyors.
• Familiarity with products including grease, oils, chemicals, tapping lubricants, and degreasers.
