About the role
JonnyPops, based in Elk River, MN, is seeking a Master Electrician to bring licensed Master Electrician capability in-house. The role involves performing, directing, and permitting all electrical installations, modifications, and repairs throughout the facility, supporting capital projects, and ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform, direct, and permit all electrical installations, modifications, and repairs throughout the facility (lighting, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, 480V/120V distribution, refrigeration controls).
- Execute and continuously improve the preventive maintenance (PM) program for all electrical systems — panel boards, motor starters, disconnects, and control panels.
- Provide rapid emergency electrical response to minimize unplanned downtime on production lines.
- Support commissioning and ongoing reliability of HTST systems, vision inspection equipment, and new capital installations as directed by engineering leadership.
- Read and interpret single-line diagrams, panel schedules, control schematics, and equipment wiring diagrams; maintain accurate as-built documentation in the CMMS (Fiix).
- Pull and manage electrical permits under your Master Electrician license for all qualifying work, reducing reliance on outside electrical contractors for permitted scopes.
- Serve as the on-site authority for NEC compliance; coordinate AHJ inspections and ensure all work passes first inspection.
- Maintain and update arc flash studies, single-line diagrams, and electrical safety documentation as systems are modified or added.
- Manage utility coordination (Xcel Energy) for service upgrades, demand management, and new connections.
- Supervise journeyman and apprentice electricians as the team grows; ensure all supervised work is performed safely, correctly, and in compliance with your license obligations.
- Train and mentor maintenance technicians on electrical safety, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Contribute to standard work development for electrical tasks; document procedures in a format accessible to the broader maintenance team.
- Partner with engineering and operations leadership on capital project scoping, labor estimation, and execution — self-performing electrical work that would otherwise be contracted out.
- Track and report electrical labor costs versus third-party contractor benchmarks, providing visibility into savings realized from in-house capability.
- Manage electrical materials, tools, and spare parts inventory to support planned and emergency work without excessive stock-on-hand cost.
- Perform all electrical work in accordance with JonnyPops GMPs and food-safety standards — using food-grade materials where required and following sanitary design principles.
- Ensure all electrical installations meet NSF, USDA, and FDA facility standards as applicable.
- Participate in facility audits and proactively address any electrical findings to maintain compliance and protect product integrity.
Qualifications
- Active Minnesota Master Electrician license (required; valid and in good standing at time of hire).
- 7+ years of commercial or industrial electrical experience, with demonstrated proficiency in 480V/3-phase systems, motor controls, VFDs, and PLCs.
- Proven experience pulling permits and managing AHJ inspections independently.
- Proficiency reading and creating single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and control wiring schematics.
- Solid understanding of NEC, OSHA 1910 electrical standards, and NFPA 70E arc flash safety.
- Experience in a food, beverage, or other regulated manufacturing environment; familiarity with GMP requirements.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment — comfortable shifting between planned maintenance, capital projects, and emergency response as priorities demand.
- CMMS experience (Fiix preferred) for work order creation, PM scheduling, and documentation.
- Experience with refrigeration electrical systems.
- Familiarity with vision system integration (Cognex, Keyence, or similar) and packaging line electrical interfaces.
- Prior experience serving as in-house electrical authority at a manufacturing facility — eliminating or significantly reducing reliance on a third-party electrical contractor.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) — a plus given the multilingual team environment on the production floor.
- Primarily on-site at the Elk River manufacturing facility; occasional travel to the Plymouth office for project coordination.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb ladders, work in confined spaces and elevated areas, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Works in variable temperature environments (production areas range from ambient to freezing); exposure to industrial noise and machinery.
- On-call availability for critical electrical emergencies may be required.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required per task, including arc flash PPE rated to facility hazard levels.
