MASK/ECP Floating Aide

About the Role

Milton Family Community Center is looking for an engaging and flexible early childhood educator to serve as MASK Program Staff for mornings and a floating team teacher to support daily program activities throughout the day. This team member is responsible for the daily classroom operation of the Infant, Young Toddler, Older Toddler, or Preschool Classroom as assigned, including providing high-quality care and education for up to 5 children daily in alignment with licensing ratio requirements (ages 6 weeks to approximately 5 years old). The role also involves maintaining positive collaborations with families, coworkers, service providers, and community partners. Additionally, this position supports the MASK program in the mornings at Milton Elementary School, providing supervision and engaging in activities for children aged 5-12.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate high-quality student engagement and classroom management.
• Ensure the assigned MFCC and MASK Classroom meets or exceeds VT licensing regulations, including:
  • Record keeping
  • Health and safety
  • Classroom environment
  • Curriculum
  • Emergency Response Planning
• Initiate, direct, and facilitate activities with children to aid in the development of socialization, self-help, language and reading, math, fine and gross motor skills, art, play, storytelling, songs, and dramatic play.
• Ensure student safety at all times, including maintaining a clean and organized classroom physical environment.
• Assist in the safe distribution of nutritious meals and snacks to students, as prepared on-site.
• Implement developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate curriculum for your assigned classroom.
• Work with the Early Childcare Program Director, MASK Director, and Lead Teachers to implement developmentally appropriate curricula and student activities based on creative curriculum.
• Utilize scheduled office and planning time for classroom cleaning, activity preparation, documentation, and student items (diapers, wipes, clothes, etc.); complete necessary program or professional development paperwork and documentation.
• Engage in and complete annual professional development training hours and submit appropriate documentation as required by VT licensing regulations.
• Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR for infants/children.
• Cultivate strong family-teacher partnerships by:
  • Assisting with MFCC programs and community efforts to increase community and parental resilience.
  • Establishing a positive rapport with parents/guardians to act as an advocate/facilitator for families.
  • Communicating with parents regarding daily activities, special events, meals, and child-specific information including behavior and well-being.
  • Collaborating with partners regarding students with special needs (as needed).
• Be a team player by:
  • Driving positive organizational culture alongside fellow MFCC team members.
  • Learning and modeling MFCC Policies and Procedures.
  • Creating a positive work environment through effective communication and promoting the Strengthening Families framework.
  • Adhering to the MFCC Teacher Manual and Employee Handbook.
  • Attending MFCC all-staff meetings, ECP Team Meetings, and scheduled direct supervision and reflection meetings.
  • Communicating with the ECP Director, staff, and collaborating partners regarding concerns, curriculum ideas, or daily responsibilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must meet minimum qualifications for an early childhood Teacher Assistant within one year of hire as described by the Vermont Child Development Division for Licensed Child Care Center Programs rule 7.3.2.3 and NAEYC, including one of the following:
  • A Vermont Early Childhood Career Ladder Level One (1) or Two (2) Certificate.
  • A current CDA (Child Development Associate) and at least twelve (12) months of experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
  • A State Board of Education approved Human Services Program Certificate that emphasizes child development or early childhood education and at least twelve (12) months of experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals’ course or the Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate and at least twelve (12) months of experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
  • Successful completion of a three (3) college credit course in child or human development or a three (3) college credit course for school-age care and education and at least twelve (12) months of experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
• For MASK Program Staff, must have at least one of the following within a year of employment:
  • Vermont Afterschool Foundations Certificate.
  • Vermont Afterschool Essentials Certificate.
  • Vermont On-The-Job Training certificate.
  • Vermont Afterschool Professional Credential.
  • Vermont Program Director Credential.
  • Vermont Teacher Licensure.
  • BA/BS or Associate's Degree.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

• Sit, stand, and/or move about for extended periods.
• Actively engage in learning/play activities with students.
• Visual acuity to read and write printed materials, computer screens, and observe students’ movement.
• Hearing and speech abilities for ordinary and telephonic conversations and to speak to small groups of children.
• Ambulatory ability to move around the classroom, playgrounds, and assist with play-oriented learning activities.
• Ability to lift children, carry, push, and move supplies/furniture/etc. of light-to-medium weight (under 40 lbs.) on an intermittent basis.
