About the Role
The Marlins Youth Academy Baseball & Softball Seasonal Coach will focus on executing sports-based youth development programs to teach the fundamentals of baseball and softball, while providing life-changing social and emotional learning for youth ages 5-18.
Responsibilities
- Marlins Jr. RBI Program
- Serve as coach to teach baseball fundamentals and lead tee ball, coach pitch, or kid pitch teams, including facilitating practices and games to develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques.
- Collaborate with fellow coaches and supervisor to confirm weekly practice plans using the Marlins Rookies curriculum, strengthening individual skills, team cohesiveness, and life skills.
- Coordinate day-to-day operations with community partners (e.g., Boys and Girls Club of Miami-Dade, City of Hialeah Parks and Recreation) including parent communication, online registration management, paperwork collection, and distribution of uniforms and equipment.
- Assist with league management, field maintenance, scheduling updates, and roster maintenance.
- Serve as umpire for Jr. RBI games when needed.
- Maintain knowledge of and implement Marlins Youth Baseball and Softball development strategies.
- Promote Marlins Jr. RBI to local community organizations and schools.
- Marlins RBI Program
- Oversee baseball and softball game operations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, including managing rosters, confirming field and umpire readiness, and communicating game rules and conduct with coaches.
- Assist as a coach or umpire when needed.
- Support additional programming such as clinics, RBI All-Star team tryouts, and practices.
- Promote Marlins RBI to local community organizations and schools.
- Marlins Youth Academy
- Maintain regular communication with Miami Marlins staff regarding program updates.
- Supervise, motivate, and instruct players ages 6-18, evaluating skills and providing constructive feedback.
- Assess player strengths and weaknesses and implement individualized training.
- Help plan practice and clinic agendas, develop game strategies, and adapt tactics based on opponents.
- Prioritize player safety by enforcing protocols and teaching proper techniques to prevent injury.
- Inspire and motivate players, maintain a positive attitude, and address concerns or conflicts.
- Attend workshops, seminars, trainings, meetings, and special initiatives as requested by the Miami Marlins Foundation.
- Assist with the operation of youth baseball and softball events, including clinic setup, registration, and customer service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills to optimize training sessions and game preparation.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of baseball/softball rules, regulations, and techniques (hitting, pitching, fielding, base running).
- Ability to plan and organize practices, games, and team activities.
- Ability to throw batting practice and hit fungo.
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme heat and rain for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma (or equivalent).
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Experience playing baseball/softball up to the collegiate level, or high school playing/coaching experience.
- Experience and knowledge working with youth baseball and/or softball programs preferred.
- Experience working with youth recreation programs preferred.
