Department Summary
The Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS) is a unique residential program for high school-aged Texas students who are high achievers and interested in mathematics and science. While living on campus in McConnell Hall, students in this two-year program complete a rigorous academic curriculum of college coursework at the University of North Texas (UNT). The Honors College is dedicated to enriching the undergraduate academic experience for the more than 2,000 talented, motivated, and well-prepared students who choose to be members.
Position Overview
The TAMS Recruitment and Marketing Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the organization of TAMS recruitment events, providing support for departmental events, and creating effective marketing materials for departmental initiatives and TAMS recruitment. The position requires excellent communication and collaboration skills. The position will represent our colleges in online media and at departmental events. The position will help support the TAMS Alumni effort as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field, or in communications, marketing, advertising, public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of market segmentation, principles of marketing, integrated marketing communications principles and branding
- Ability to visually inspect copy material
- Competency in MS Office and requisite publishing, graphic design and media tools
- Ability to think creatively, organize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to use Associated Press style
- Strong communications skills
- Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, or a related field, and one year of event planning experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Job Duties
- Create physical and digital marketing materials for the department
- Assist with creating, vetting, and/or posting content for the department's websites and social media sites
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Events to develop and implement marketing strategies for the department
- Assist with organization, setup, and facilitation of TAMS recruitment events
- Coordinate, in collaboration with the Director of TAMS Admissions, recruitment efforts and presentation opportunities
- Represent TAMS on campus for recruitment efforts and events
- Collaborate with Director of Admissions on all elements of recruitment and marketing of the TAMS program
- Assist the Director of Marketing and events with the planning, organization, and coordination of departmental events
- Other duties as requested by Director of Admissions and Director of Marketing and Events

- Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds
- Lifting and Moving objects up to 50 pounds

- Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. This role does require occasional evening and weekend hours to support key events, with advance notice. We offer flexible scheduling options for weeks when evening or weekend work is expected.
