Job Summary

The Marketing & Communications Specialist supports the strategic marketing and communications needs of the Heart and Vascular Care Line and Transplant Care Line at University of Utah Health. This position develops and executes integrated marketing and communications initiatives that support service‑line growth, increase awareness of clinical services, strengthen physician and program visibility, and advance strategic priorities. The ideal candidate is a strategic marketer, strong writer, organized project manager, and creative thinker who can translate complex clinical information into compelling marketing and communications strategies and content while thriving in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement integrated marketing and communications strategies that support strategic priorities and growth goals.
  • Identify target audiences, establish positioning, define goals and objectives, and develop marketing plans using appropriate channels.
  • Develop and execute multi‑channel campaigns across the consumer journey, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with University of Utah Health brand standards.
  • Provide strategic direction for advertising and public‑facing communications, including digital, print, video, and other creative assets.
  • Gather and apply consumer, market, and performance insights to inform strategies, evaluate effectiveness, monitor key performance metrics, and optimize campaigns and initiatives.
  • Write, edit, and develop clear, compelling content that communicates the expertise, services, programs, and patient‑care experience of the Heart and Vascular and Transplant Care Lines.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to showcase physicians, clinical programs, research, innovation, patient stories, and other areas that enhance visibility and reputation.
  • Plan, organize, and manage occasional community events.
  • Track project and campaign budgets and resources as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalency Statement: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., a bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience). The department may hire at one of the following levels:

  • Marketing Communication Specialist, II: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
  • Marketing Communication Specialist, III: Requires a bachelor’s (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master’s (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills.
  • Proficiency with digital and email marketing tools, web content management platforms (Drupal, SharePoint), and social media marketing.
  • Experience using project‑management platforms such as Asana, Smartsheet, Basecamp, or similar tools.
  • Experience with photography, video, or other multimedia content development.
  • Working knowledge of basic graphic design.
  • Excellent organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in healthcare, health systems, academic medicine, or a related environment.

Pay

Salary range: $65,000 – $75,000 per year.

Schedule

Standard work schedule is Monday‑Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with occasional evenings and/or weekends as needed.

Location

Campus, Salt Lake City, UT – VP Area U of U Health, Academics Department, Marketing and Community Relations.
