About the role

The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for an Advancement & Alumni Engagement Officer. The College is seeking an energetic individual who values the institution and has the skills to effectively communicate both in-person and through print, electronic and social media to key constituents.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the ability to cultivate relationships with alumni and friends and engage them in the life of the College. The advancement & alumni engagement Officer will coordinate all aspects of annual giving appeals to incorporate academic and athletic appeals. This position is responsible for building a pipeline of annual support for the College's general operating needs and special projects; developing annual giving messages; inspiring alumni giving campaigns; instilling a culture of giving among the student body; and working in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement and other advancement colleagues on various fundraising projects and advancement related activities.

Requirements

  • Experience in social media strategies using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Experience using email platforms such as Marketing Cloud
  • The ability to design creative collateral using Canva and other such programs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with advancement, athletics, marketing and communications to achieve fundraising goals
  • Ability to make presentations to colleagues, Boards and in one-on-one visits

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree is required; preference for Communications, Business and Marketing majors. Candidates must possess a high degree of initiative, integrity, excellent communication and writing skills. The ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to meet measurable metrics are essential.

Pay

Anticipated Salary: $48,000 - $50,000; based on qualifications and experience

Schedule

Evening and weekend work, and travel, are required. Most travel is within a day's drive of the College with occasional overnight travel to visit with supporters.

Location and Other Information

This position is based in Wise, Virginia, situated in the far southwestern corner of the state near the Kentucky and Tennessee borders. Background checks will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment.
