Market Services Manager

The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is a regional disaster and hunger-relief network that brings together community resources to share tens of millions of pounds of food with neighbors each year. With the help of 145 partner agencies, nearly 200 school partners, and more than ten thousand volunteers, our day-to-day efforts help feed nearly 100,000 neighbors each month across our 32-county area. The Food Bank Market, opened in a new location in 2023, directly serves individuals facing food insecurity in Boone County with a grocery store approach to food distribution coupled with linkages to other non-profits in the community.

About the role

The Food Bank Market Services Manager helps manage programs, services, and daily operations that create a welcoming, efficient, and dignified experience for neighbors. This position is responsible for growth and improvement of The Market programs and ensuring neighbor voices are heard. The role works collaboratively with other members of The Market team and The Food Bank to maintain and improve the experience to meet neighbor needs.

Responsibilities

  • Program Management
    • Manages administrative duties related to food programs, which may include: The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (Senior Box), The Emergency Food Assistance Program, Veteran Box Program, Share Pack Program, and home food delivery program.
    • Supports compliance with government nutrition programs.
    • Learns and helps maintain data within internal systems.
    • Serves as one of the on-site managers to coordinate staff, volunteers, and community partners as assigned.
  • Customer (Neighbor) Experience
    • Provides excellent customer (neighbor) service and applies de-escalation techniques when appropriate.
    • Conducts regular collection of neighbor feedback and collaborates with team members to ensure proper follow-up.
  • Community Engagement
    • Supports volunteer recruiting, orientation, and ensures volunteers meet customer service expectations.
    • Builds relationships with customers (neighbors) and community organizations to collaborate to empower long-term food security.
    • Partners with other Food Bank departments to facilitate efficient and effective delivery of services.
    • Works as part of a team environment and is cross-trained on additional duties to assist as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience managing personnel and instructing individuals and groups.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting The Food Bank mission, including showing compassion to neighbors experiencing food insecurity.
  • Patient demeanor with the ability to relate to, empathize with, and show compassion for individual differences and diversity.
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage customer service concerns and conflict situations involving guests in a discreet manner.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds, load carts, and stock shelves.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, or other presentation software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, nonprofit management, human services, business, public administration, a related field, or 3-5 years’ experience in a related field.
