Market Risk Analyst II
What You Can Expect
The Market Risk Analyst II is a control and enablement role responsible for supporting the end-to-end systems, data, reporting, and automation layer that underpins Market Risk activities across power and gas trading portfolios. The role combines day-to-day market risk monitoring with technical ownership of the tools, data flows, and controls used to produce reliable risk indicators and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Validate market risk indicators against approved limits, mandates, and control thresholds.
- Maintain and monitor VaR, stress, drawdown, sensitivities, position-based indicators, and other risk metrics used to oversee trading activity.
- Perform ad-hoc analysis of market events, portfolio moves, and unusual risk profile changes to support timely management decisions.
- Investigate breaches, limit utilization anomalies, missing metrics, and unexplained movements, and escalate promptly where control integrity is at risk.
- Prepare clear and timely reporting for Risk management and relevant stakeholders.
- Support and oversee the daily production chain for Market Risk indicators and reporting across core trading, risk, and data platforms.
- Ensure risk data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness across upstream and downstream systems.
- Design, build, and maintain Python- and SQL/CDH-based controls and automation supporting Market Risk reporting, reconciliation, exception monitoring, and data quality checks.
- Reduce manual processes and single-point-of-failure dependencies across the Market Risk control environment.
- Embed preventive and detective controls aligned with internal risk, operational risk, and audit expectations.
- Support the development of monitoring tools for production jobs, control evidence, and issue tracking.
- Serve as a key Market Risk counterpart to IT for incidents, change requests, prioritization, production support, and system enhancements.
- Work closely with Trading, Middle Office, and Risk Analytics to ensure consistency between positions, valuations, reserves, P&L, and Market Risk metrics.
- Translate business and control requirements into clear technical specifications and practical operating procedures, and risk frameworks.
- Support system migrations, process improvements, and stabilization efforts affecting the Market Risk operating model.
- Maintain clear procedures, run books, and documentation for critical Market Risk processes, controls, and escalation paths.
- Support audit requests, control testing, remediation tracking, and operational risk initiatives including RCSA follow-up where relevant.
- Contribute to a resilient Market Risk framework by strengthening transparency, backup coverage, and continuity of key processes and tools.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience developing data, reporting, or risk analytics tooling — including hands-on Python work — in support of commodity trading or risk activities.
- Experience with commodity markets.
- Hands-on experience supporting or operating risk, trading, or data platforms in a production environment.
- Experience with ETRM systems.
- Strong Python coding skills, with hands-on experience building data analysis, reporting automation, control scripts, and issue investigation tooling.
- Strong SQL/CDH and comfort working with large datasets, interfaces, and complex data flows.
- Ability to debug system, data, and reporting issues across multiple platforms and teams.
- Strong Excel and reporting discipline.
- Strong understanding of market risk indicators, limit frameworks, reporting controls, and the interaction between positions, valuation, P&L, and risk metrics.
- Comfortable operating in a high-accountability, high-urgency environment.
- Able to challenge constructively, escalate clearly, and stay focused on control quality under pressure.
- Exposure to professional risk certification frameworks (such as GARP FRM, RAI, or equivalent) and an interest in AI, large language models, and machine learning applied to risk and controls.
Additional Details
This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy; a minimum of 3 days working in the office per week.

Compensation: Salary Range: $77,100 – $118,220 USD annually. This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate. ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
