What We’re Looking For This is an excellent opportunity for an early career reporter to develop expertise in the steel industry, from raw materials to finished products that make up many of the products essential to daily life. Argus is seeking a market reporter to join its Pittsburgh-based team covering steel and ferrous scrap markets. You will apply and develop your skills through daily news reporting, market analysis and source development in this fast-paced environment with the highest standards of journalistic independence and integrity. You will cover these markets through weekly and monthly price assessments, writing interesting, analytical market commentaries, news coverage and in-depth analysis to appear online and in daily Argus reports. You will also be responsible for maintaining and expanding the contact base, attending conferences and leading efforts to expand Argus coverage of key metals markets. You will work in tandem with other reporters and editors who will provide training and support to develop in-depth knowledge of the markets. What You Will Be Doing Monitor and assess markets to produce weekly and monthly price assessments, market commentaries, news, analysis and reportsCurate data and maintain and analyse existing data series to inform coverage and develop graphs and charts within Excel to illustrate trends and analysisDevelop an understanding of relevant commodity markets, working with other Argus teams to produce joint content.Regular meetings and daily communication with key members of the industry, including traders, brokers, and business leaders to build relationships and gather newsContribute copy to relevant daily and periodical publications and the online news service, and contribute to special content and presentations as requiredWork with other departments to help promote the use of Argus price assessments and help develop new pricing tools for the battery metals marketsAttend meetings, conferences and industry events to build contacts, report on news and represent Argus in the industry What We’re Looking For In You A graduate with a strong degree, with a preference for journalismProven ability to develop, source and write industry-relevant news to deadlineKnowledge of commodity markets is preferredExcellent writing, grammar and numeracy skills (these will be tested as part of the interview process)Ability to use data in generating stories and analysis is preferred, while a willingness to learn is essentialExcellent communication skills with ability to network and build contacts with industry executives.
