This position is responsible for assisting the Department Manager with presenting the freshest, most innovative, and best quality products at a competitive retail price to customers. Additionally, you will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Smiling and greeting customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee’s designated department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Making an effort to learn customers’ names and to address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assisting customers by: escorting them to the products they’re looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answering the telephone promptly and providing friendly, helpful service to customers who call, including taking product orders.
  • Working with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Checking orders for the day and setting up a timeline and production schedule.
  • Reviewing daily production list with department employees and assigning tasks for completion.
  • Ensuring food display case product is rotated and replenished.
  • Scanning the Market Grille area for items and areas that need to be addressed (e.g., coffee, salad case, cleanliness, kitchen repairs, and safety issues) and assigning tasks to Market Grille staff.
  • Ensuring the proper amount of staff in the department to handle customer needs.
  • Monitoring schedule, checking on hours and duties for 14 and 15-year-olds, and monitoring department overtime.
  • Controlling inventory through constant monitoring of products.
  • Ensuring supply area is clean and orderly.
  • Rotating all perishable product with every delivery.
  • Handling catering contracts.
  • Following all food safety guidelines and ensuring department employees comply.
  • Handling and satisfying customer issues.
  • Suggesting ad items for department.
  • Reviewing and ordering signage for the department.
  • Suggesting in-store specials and doing the intercom message.
  • Assisting in monthly inventory: posting invoices, helping with counts, calculating intra and inter-store.
  • Understanding and practicing proper sanitation procedures and ensuring the work area is always clean and neat, and maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
  • Adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines.
  • Working closely with Restaurant and Service staff.
  • Reporting to work when scheduled and on time.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assuming management duties in absence of Department Manager.
  • Writing schedules for the department and being able to calculate clerk production amounts.
  • Putting items/products together for catering or instructing to complete and calculating portion needed.
  • Training employees in department duties.
  • Ordering all products and supplies for the department.
  • Understanding and being able to perform all aspects of department duties.
  • Assisting in other areas of store as needed.
  • Performing other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

The following are required for this position:

  • Ability to solve practical problems; variety of variables with limited standardization; interpret instructions.
  • Ability to do arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; interview to obtain basic information; guide people and provide basic direction.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High school or equivalent experience with Sanitation (Food Safety) courses encouraged.
  • One year of similar or related experience.

Physical Requirements

The physical requirements for this position include:

  • Must be physically able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision.
  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
