Market Development Analyst
About the Role
The Market Development Analyst is a Commercial Development professional who delivers the market intelligence, customer analysis, and commercial insights needed to support growth strategy and go-to-market decisions. This position evaluates priority markets, customer segments, service-line opportunities, and competitive dynamics; develops market-sizing and whitespace analyses; and supports business cases for market entry, customer expansion, and strategic investment. Working across Commercial Development, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Estimating, and Operations, the analyst converts complex information into clear, actionable recommendations that strengthen pipeline development, revenue growth, and market positioning.
Responsibilities
- Market Intelligence and Opportunity Assessment
- Research and assess target geographies, customer segments, vertical markets, service lines, and adjacent growth opportunities
- Monitor customer investment plans, industry trends, competitive activity, infrastructure demand, and regional growth indicators
- Develop total addressable market, serviceable market, whitespace, customer concentration, and market-attractiveness analyses
- Evaluate market size, growth potential, competitive intensity, buyer needs, barriers to entry, and commercial fit
- Maintain current market intelligence using internal data, industry sources, customer information, and third-party research
- Identify emerging opportunities and risks that may affect commercial priorities, pipeline, revenue, or market positioning
- Commercial Strategy and Business Case Development
- Support business cases for new-market entry, customer expansion, strategic partnerships, and service-line growth
- Analyze revenue potential, margin considerations, customer demand, competitive positioning, resource requirements, and execution dependencies
- Develop market-entry recommendations, opportunity prioritization frameworks, and scenario analyses for leadership review
- Partner with Finance, Estimating, and Operations to validate commercial assumptions and assess financial and operational feasibility
- Document key assumptions, decision criteria, risks, sensitivities, and recommended actions
- Go-to-Market, Pipeline, and Executive Support
- Partner with Commercial Development, Sales, and Marketing to define target accounts, customer segments, value propositions, and go-to-market priorities
- Analyze customer and opportunity data to identify pipeline gaps, cross-selling opportunities, new-logo prospects, and market coverage needs
- Support account planning, territory planning, strategic pursuits, and commercial reviews with fact-based insights
- Prepare executive-ready dashboards, scorecards, presentations, market readouts, and decision materials
- Track approved commercial initiatives, market-entry assumptions, milestones, and results to support ongoing evaluation
- Maintain standardized commercial-development tools, definitions, data sources, templates, and documentation
- Perform ad hoc analyses in support of growth planning, annual operating plans, customer strategy, and leadership requests
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, marketing, strategy, analytics, or a related field
- Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in commercial development, market intelligence, corporate strategy, business analytics, sales operations, consulting, or a related function
- Experience conducting market research, customer or competitive analysis, market sizing, and business-case development
- Experience preparing data-driven recommendations and presentations for business leaders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in digital infrastructure, data centers, telecommunications, broadband, construction services, engineering, or another complex business-to-business market
- Experience with customer relationship management data, pipeline analytics, market intelligence platforms, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools
- Experience supporting go-to-market planning, account segmentation, growth strategy, or new-market evaluation
- Familiarity with financial modeling, revenue forecasting, pricing, or profitability analysis
Skills
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong market research, quantitative analysis, and data-interpretation skills
- Commercial acumen and understanding of customer, revenue, pipeline, margin, and competitive drivers
- Ability to translate complex market and customer information into concise, decision-ready insights
- Ability to structure business cases, market-sizing analyses, scorecards, dashboards, and executive presentations
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to identify patterns, test assumptions, and ask commercially relevant questions
- Strong attention to detail, data integrity, organization, and documentation
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate across Commercial Development, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Estimating, and Operations
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidential commercial and customer information
