About the role

This Opportunity WSP is initiating a search for a Ports and Marine Project Manager with the potential to work out of any of our Maritime offices within Raleigh-NC, Houston-TX, San Diego+Irvine-CA, Tampa-FL. The successful candidate will be involved in projects with our Ports and Maritime Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsible charge for supervising the work of staff engineers, supervising task leads, and self-perform calculations and prepare drawings and technical specifications.
  • Prepare technical studies and reports and guide/review the work of staff engineers.
  • Perform oversight of calculations, cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications and reports.
  • Manage/lead projects, tasks and staff for marine facility projects, including various types of cargo terminals (e.g. container, bulk, break-bulk), federal facilities (homeporting piers and shipyards), and clients (port authorities, DoD, private terminals, public agencies, etc.).
  • Perform multiple discipline management and coordination of internal and external teams comprised of civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, coastal, fire protection, and architecture.
  • Prepare alternatives analysis reports and presentations for repair projects and capital improvement programs.
  • Lead review meetings, client presentations, and design charrettes.
  • Perform business development and general marketing activities.
  • Maintain positive client relationships.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior marine, port, and coastal design experience.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Aptitude in maritime related codes (ASCE, COPRI, etc.) and Department of Defense (UFC, UFGC) criteria.
  • Competency or ability to supervise staff in state-of-the-art computer programs.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card which requires a TSA background check.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Experience with design and management of Port Authority, NAVY, or Coast Guard projects.
