About the Group
The Advanced Concepts & Technologies Group develops technology to protect and enhance the effectiveness of deployed sailors, soldiers, and assets while enabling operations in a rapidly evolving complex threat environment. The group’s research and development activities include architecture and concept design, advanced algorithms development, software and hardware prototyping, experimental field-testing, and data analysis. The team focuses on creating new capabilities through analysis of critical problems leading to rapid prototyping of software and hardware, with particular interest in advanced electronic warfare systems, sensors, signal processing, mathematical optimization, and artificial intelligence for next-generation fleet and surface assets.
This dynamic group is comprised of scientists and engineers with expertise in physics, mathematics, computer science, and various engineering backgrounds. The group values inclusiveness, fosters mentorship at all levels, and promotes critical and innovative thinking to address national needs.
About the Role
The Advanced Concepts and Technologies Group is seeking a candidate to conduct research in maritime electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) imaging and help develop capability for next-generation systems for the DoD. The work will include:
- Operation of custom imaging systems and participation in experimental lab and field testing as part of a team.
- Image and signal processing and algorithm development of imagery data for specific mission purposes.
The candidate is expected to work independently on problems requiring critical thinking as well as collaboratively in team environments. Work tasks may include systems analysis, concept development, algorithm implementation, imaging system operation, data analysis, and presenting results to external sponsors.
Requirements
- Ph.D. (or M.S. degree with at least 5-10 years of experience) in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Aeronautics/Astronautics, or a related field.
- Significant programming skills in any language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Julia, C++, Java) and ability to solve complex problems.
- Self-motivated with a proven ability to address a broad range of problems both independently and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
Desired Skills
- Hands-on experience with imaging systems in laboratory or field testing.
- Experience in data analysis and image processing using MATLAB, Python, and C++.
- Familiarity with AI/ML techniques for image recognition.
Pay
Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $145,200 – $170,000
Experienced Hiring Range: $145,200 – $220,000
Note: The final salary offered will depend on factors such as scope of the role, candidate experience, skills, education/training, internal equity, and applicable legal requirements. This range reflects base salary only and does not include additional compensation or benefits.
