Principal Optical Engineer - EO/IR Systems
About the role
The Senior Principal Optical Engineer II will play a crucial role in the EO/IR Capability Group at BAE Systems. This group is comprised of experts in Optical, Electro-Optical, Opto-mechanical, and Laser specialties, dedicated to creating innovative hardware solutions that enhance the success of the company's program portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Develop and mature advanced EO/IR system concepts.
- Support the development of next-generation Precision Pointers, Laser Systems, Imaging Systems, and other complex EO/IR systems.
- Design and analyze optical subsystems.
- Perform system modeling and data analysis to understand the overall performance of the optical system.
- Work independently and collaboratively to contribute to program success.
- Present current program work to customers and contribute to proposals for new projects.
Requirements
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- BS degree in Optical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience in designing complex optical subassemblies and systems.
- Experience in optical system level performance modeling.
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills:
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should demonstrate a broad understanding of EO/IR Systems.
Skills
Technical skills required for this role include the ability to design and analyze optical subsystems, perform system modeling and data analysis, and work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team setting.

Full-Time Salary Range: $132,962 - $226,035
