PRIMARY PURPOSE
To inspect cargo damaged in transit and determine the nature, cause, and extent of damages; to review documents to determine when the cargo was damaged; and to provide written reports to underwriters and other parties with his/her qualified opinion as to the cause of loss.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees loading and unloading of cargo from ships and other forms of transit to document damages as they are loaded and/or unloaded.
- Inspects damaged ships to determine cause of the damage and amount of damage resulting from collisions or motor failures.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supports the organization's quality program(s).
- Travels as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education & Licensing: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Experience: Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- PC literate, including Microsoft Office products.
- Good customer service skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Mental: Clear and conceptual thinking ability; excellent judgment, troubleshooting, problem solving, analysis, and discretion; ability to handle work-related stress; ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously; and ability to meet deadlines.
- Physical: Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Must be able to kneel, squat or bend. Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions. Have the ability to: climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and reaching/working overhead. Be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds. Be able to drive up to 4 hours per day. Must have continual use of manual dexterity.
