Marine Research Associate III (GSO)

About the role

The search will remain open until the position has been filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by May 15, 2026. Applications received after May 15, 2026 may be reviewed depending on search progress and needs but are not guaranteed full consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Perform both applied and basic research of an advanced and independent nature under the overall direction of principal investigator.
  • Design research protocols (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures), perform independent laboratory and field measurements and analyses.
  • Develop analytical procedures, computer programs and other techniques for laboratory and fieldwork.
  • Develop research proposals, technical reports and professional articles.
  • Instruct and supervise graduate students and others in the use of laboratory equipment and in research processes and techniques.
  • Perform budget and administrative responsibilities for specific projects and/or programs.
  • May represent the PI at meetings and conferences as appropriate.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree involving salt marsh research or in coastal ecology or related field with at least three years of relevant experience in wetland science, environmental data analysis, hydrology and/or sedimentology.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work productively in teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with a positive attitude and professional courtesy.
  • Significant experience with GIS, data management (e.g., QA/QC) and data processing (graphing, statistics) as well as with coastal fieldwork.
  • Must have own transportation and be able to travel for fieldwork and to conference or other project meetings.
