About the role

Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), seeks applicants for full-time security-based positions as Marine Interdiction Agents. These positions are part of a team dedicated to maintaining border security and facilitating lawful international travel and trade.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain law enforcement scenes independently, including conducting searches, making arrests, and processing arrests and seizures.
  • Interpret radar data to track vessels and people for successful interdictions.
  • Search persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons.
  • Collect, refine, and analyze strategic and tactical intelligence.
  • Write comprehensive arrest, criminal, and incident reports.
  • Assist government or state attorneys in preparing for court cases or grand juries.
  • Testify as a law enforcement officer in court proceedings and administrative forums.
  • Apply arrest authorities and constitutional law in various criminal situations.
  • Utilize cameras and other electronic high-tech surveillance equipment to gather evidence.
  • Conduct investigative inquiries using various techniques, examining files and records, and collecting physical and documentary evidence.

Requirements

  • Qualifying Merchant Mariner Credential.
  • One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as controlling/commanding law enforcement scenes, conducting searches, making arrests, processing arrests and seizure of evidence and property, assisting government or state attorneys, preparing for court cases or grand juries, testifying in court proceedings, and administrative forums.
  • Three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or LL.M., or a combination of successfully completed post-bachelor’s education and experience.
  • An accepted MMLD application for a qualifying capacity on a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizen.
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
  • Age Requirement: Must be referred for selection to the Border Patrol Agent position before reaching their 40th birthday.
  • Veterans' Preference Eligibility: Proof of Veteran's Preference (DD-214 Member 4 Copy) at the time of application.
  • Training: Successful completion of required training as a condition of employment.
  • Travel: May be expected to travel for operational needs.

Qualifications

  • GS-11 grade level requires a Merchant Mariner Credential.
  • GS-11 Education Substitution: Ph.D., LL.M., or a combination of post-bachelor’s education and experience.
  • GS-11 Education Substitution for Experience: Three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., or LL.M., or a combination of successfully completed post-bachelor’s education and experience.
  • GS-11 Education Substitution for Experience: A combination of successfully completed post-bachelor’s education and experience.

Pay

The salary range for the GS-11 grade level is $105,931 to $164,075 per year, with possible extra compensation based on duty location. Recruitment Incentive and Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) are also available.

Schedule

Duty locations are offered based on current needs and may include the Southwest Region, Southeast Region, and Caribbean Air and Marine Branch. Final selection is based on flexibility to enter on duty at priority duty locations.
