About the role

Air and Marine Operations (AMO), a component of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), seeks applicants for the role of Marine Interdiction Agent (MIA). This position offers a unique opportunity to join an elite team dedicated to protecting America's borders through law enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain vigilance over behavior patterns and activities of suspected individuals, vehicles, or vessels engaged in illegal activities.
  • Interpret radar data to guide effective interception and successful interdiction of suspects.
  • Search persons, vessels, baggage, and cargo for contraband or weapons during law enforcement operations.
  • Collect, refine, and analyze strategic and tactical intelligence.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification: Merchant Mariner Credential.
  • Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, including duties such as controlling/commanding law enforcement scenes, conducting searches, making arrests, and collecting evidence.
  • Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or LL.M., or a combination of successfully completed post-bachelor’s education and experience.
  • Other requirements: U.S. citizenship, primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years, and age restrictions.

Pay and Schedule

  • Salary ranges from $105,931 to $191,284 annually, depending on grade level and duty location.
  • Retention Incentive and Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) may apply.

Schedule

Duty locations are offered based on current needs and may include the Southwest Region, Southeast Region, and Caribbean Air and Marine Branch. Final duty location is determined after the pre-employment process.
