About the role

Reporting to the Mapping and Spatial Records Team Leader, the Mapping and Spatial Records Specialist will:

  • Build and maintain the first-ever city-wide GIS dataset comprising the legal City Map, to be legally adopted by January 1, 2029.
  • Assist in the conversion of street title data and the City Map of the City of New York from sectioned paper format to a seamless citywide digital format using ArcGIS.
  • Update digital coverages of the City Map and street title data following approved rezonings and City Map amendments. These data products are heavily used by city agencies and the public.
  • Prepare sketch maps for proposed City Map changes. Sketch maps graphically describe proposed changes and are distributed to Community Boards, Borough Presidents, the City Planning Commission, and the City Council.
  • Assist in processing City Map and street title data change requests.
  • Coordinate with city agencies, external partners, and constituents.
  • Additional tasks as required.

Preferred Skills

  • Extensive experience with ArcGIS or similar experience that will support fast, deep learning of ArcGIS Pro
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to monitor and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet strict deadlines and quickly respond to department priorities
  • Strong attention to detail in research, analysis, and review of written materials, maps, and plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with different personalities and roles
  • Experience with the NYC City Map and an interest in zoning and land use is a plus

Minimum Qualifications

  • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or a related field; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning such as in the review and development of housing, transportation, environmental, and city-owned land planning projects; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to the above.

Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college or university for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described above.

Pay

$75,777.00 – $87,144.00
