Manufacturing Technician - CNC
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC mills, or multi-axis machines.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
- Load and edit CNC programs using G-code and CAM software.
- Select tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds for optimal machining performance.
- Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks.
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and production issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes.
- Monitor production runs and adjust machine offsets as needed.
- Train and mentor junior machinists and machine operators.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on process improvements.
- Perform preventive maintenance and maintain clean, safe work areas.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Document setups, inspections, and production data accurately.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED; technical/trade school required.
- 7+ years of CNC machining experience.
- Advanced experience with CNC mills.
Skills
- Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, and machining principles.
- Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMM equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Experience with multi-axis machining.
- Leverage lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge.
Working Conditions
- Work in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, coolants, and lubricants.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and gloves.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout the shift.
- Work may involve tight production deadlines and fast-paced operations.
- Overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on production schedules.
- Strict adherence to safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies is required.
- Collaboration with machinists, programmers, engineers, maintenance personnel, and quality inspectors is expected.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision work.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery.
