Manufacturing Technician - CNC

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC mills, or multi-axis machines.
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications.
  • Load and edit CNC programs using G-code and CAM software.
  • Select tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds for optimal machining performance.
  • Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks.
  • Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and production issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain tight tolerances and high-quality surface finishes.
  • Monitor production runs and adjust machine offsets as needed.
  • Train and mentor junior machinists and machine operators.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on process improvements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and maintain clean, safe work areas.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Document setups, inspections, and production data accurately.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED; technical/trade school required.
  • 7+ years of CNC machining experience.
  • Advanced experience with CNC mills.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of G-code, tooling, and machining principles.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMM equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Experience with multi-axis machining.
  • Leverage lean manufacturing or Six Sigma knowledge.

Working Conditions

  • Work in a manufacturing or machine shop environment.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, loud noise, coolants, and lubricants.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, and gloves.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting throughout the shift.
  • Work may involve tight production deadlines and fast-paced operations.
  • Overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on production schedules.
  • Strict adherence to safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies is required.
  • Collaboration with machinists, programmers, engineers, maintenance personnel, and quality inspectors is expected.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision work.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with noise and moving machinery.
