About the role
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manufacturing Technician 1 or 2 to join our team at Sonoma Photonics, Inc., a Small Business Unit located in Santa Rosa, CA. The selected candidate will report to the Production Manager.
Responsibilities
- Performs functions associated with all thin film coating operations, including working with engineers in set-up and calibration tasks, chamber foiling, coating, and analyzing and inspecting.
- Uses sophisticated programs to collect and evaluate operating data to conduct adjustments to instruments and equipment.
- Follows critical work instructions for assigned platforms and related analytical equipment.
- Works with engineers in conducting testing, process development, and documentation.
- Handles and manages fragile composite materials.
- Prepares calibration run-sheets, coats calibration runs, analyzes results, and revises tooling factors for calibration runs.
- Adheres to all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safety guidelines and regulations.
- Works and communicates over ambient noise.
- Works in a variety of spaces/positions, including small, enclosed spaces, awkward, and elevated spaces. Positions may include bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, ascending/descending ladders, and/or working overhead.
- Ability to work flexible, changing shifts, including weekends.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in Thin Film Coating, deposition chambers, or related environments.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level DOD security clearance (U.S. citizenship is required) as well as Special Access Program (SAP) within a reasonable period of time.
- Flexibility with work shift; off shift is preferred.
- Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret numerical data for reporting purposes.
- Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing 25 lbs.
- Experience with a variety of small hand tools, calibration tools, and measurement tools.
Qualifications
Manufacturing Technician 1
- 0 years’ related manufacturing experience.
Manufacturing Technician 2
- 2 years’ experience in Thin Film Coating or related environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years’ experience in Thin Film Coating manufacturing environment.
- Completed college-level classes in STEM-related courses (math and science).li>
- Proficient with computer programs to collect and evaluate operating data (e.g., Spectral Eval, TF Calc, LabView, and Microsoft Office Suite).
- Active US Government Secret clearance.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and methods.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good math and written/verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.

Pay
Primary Level Salary Range: $43,400.00 - $72,300.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $51,400.00 - $85,600.00
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
