Manufacturing Supervisor – Downstream Bioprocessing (Night Shift)

About the role
The Manufacturing Supervisor – Downstream Bioprocessing leads manufacturing personnel and daily operations supporting the bulk production of monoclonal antibody (mAb) products at Elanco's Elwood, Kansas manufacturing site. This role oversees production activities across downstream bioprocessing operations, ensuring production targets are met while maintaining safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). The supervisor develops team members, drives operational excellence, and fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee daily manufacturing operations supporting downstream bioprocessing activities, including buffer formulation, cell clarification, protein A chromatography, and Tangential Flow Filtration, while partnering with upstream and fill/finish and ensuring adherence to production schedules.
- Supervise, coach, and develop manufacturing personnel through performance management, training, and regular feedback to build a high-performing, engaged team.
- Ensure manufacturing activities comply with USDA, EMA, and cGMP requirements, approved procedures, and batch production records.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor to promote safe work practices, operational excellence, and a culture of quality and accountability.
- Coordinate with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Validation, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to support compliant and efficient manufacturing operations.
- Monitor production performance, equipment readiness, and schedule adherence while ensuring timely completion of batch records, SAP transactions, and manufacturing documentation.
- Lead or support investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for operational events, deviations, and equipment or process issues.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing efficiency, strengthen compliance, and improve overall operational performance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of experience in a regulated, commercial manufacturing environment.
- Ability to wear appropriate gowning and personal protective equipment in manufacturing and support areas.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications that will give you a competitive edge:
- Bachelor’s degree in a biomanufacturing-related field.
- Biomanufacturing experience, particularly in monoclonal antibody manufacturing.
- Understanding of USDA, FDA, EU GMP, and cGMP regulatory standards.
- Experience with operational excellence, lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or TPS.
- Demonstrated success in leadership.
- Experience with SAP, OSI PI, or VEEVA.
Schedule
- Night shift: 5 PM – 5 AM, 12-hour shifts on a 2-week rotation (Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday).
- Shift structure is subject to change with notice according to business demands.
Pay
- Premiums available for night and weekend work: 10% for night weekdays, 14% for night weekends.
