About the Role
Supervises and coordinates all shift activities of assigned production area(s) engaged in the manufacture of wire and cable products. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
Responsibilities
- Reviews production schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, specifications, and scheduled delivery dates to meet customer requirements; assists in establishing necessary revisions.
- Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products in assigned area.
- Makes personnel assignments, maintains housekeeping and safety standards, interprets policies and procedures, and ensures compliance with production and quality standards.
- Conducts employee performance appraisals.
- Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays; executes instructions from production management.
- Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization; provides instructions on proper operations.
- Assists engineering personnel with new process and designs.
- Enforces rules, resolves worker complaints and problems, and submits unresolved situations to production management for action.
- Completes, maintains, and forwards relative production data and assists with monthly inventory.
Requirements
- One year certificate from college or technical school and/or three to four years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Directly supervises employees in the assigned production area; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standard situations.
- Able to use Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
