About the role

The Manufacturing Supervisor at Protolabs leads daily production for an assigned team to achieve output, quality, on-time delivery, and safety targets that meet customer requirements. This role manages staffing and shift coverage, coaches and develops employees, owns team KPIs and training compliance, and drives continuous improvement and cost control in partnership with the Production Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations for the assigned team/department to achieve production targets, on-time delivery, quality standards and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage staffing levels, shift coverage and workload distribution to meet operational requirements.
  • Coach, develop and recognize team members; manage performance including corrective action and completion of mid-year and annual reviews in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Own team KPIs and operational metrics, ensuring they are measurable and accurate, and communicate the expectations to the team.
  • Exemplify and enforce all departmental and company policies and procedures, ensuring all team members have a full understanding of these policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Maintain training programs and work instructions are current; maintain employee training records and ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives for the team in partnership with the Production Manager; drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support identification and implementation of cost-saving opportunities; assist the Production Manager with cost control and budget adherence.
  • Maintain a clean and safe production environment.
  • Translate strategic objectives into specific, measurable daily/shift goals and action plans.
  • Promote and sustain a positive, inclusive and professional workplace culture.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement tools.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to supervise, coach and develop hourly employees.
  • Able to analyze production metrics and lead data-driven process improvements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Able to read and write in English fluently and do basic arithmetic.
  • Proficient use of a computer and experience with Windows software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a digital ERP/MES.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or an engineering discipline, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of additive manufacturing experience.
  • Experience leading a team of at least 5 employees.
  • LEAN manufacturing experience or certification.
  • Familiarity with quality systems and standards such as ISO 9001:2015, ISO AS9100, and ISO 13485:2016.
  • Previous experience with applicable additive technology group.

Pay

$66,900 - $89,200 a year.
