About the role

This position involves coordinating and supervising equipment and personnel across the facility to optimize safety, quality, productivity, and spoilage. You will manage machinery set-up, adjustments, and product inspections to ensure compliance with standards, while recommending modifications to achieve optimal performance. Effective communication between departments and shifts is key, along with troubleshooting machinery issues and implementing solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise activities of equipment and personnel to optimize safety, quality, productivity, and spoilage.
  • Cover shifts and plant departments as needed to address absences or provide additional support.
  • Apply knowledge of production methods and processes to manage machinery set-up, adjustments, and product inspections.
  • Recommend modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal performance within equipment limits.
  • Communicate pertinent information between departments and shifts regarding equipment changes, production schedules, and issues.
  • Collaborate with employees to identify, discuss, and implement solutions for machinery and equipment problems.
  • Provide on-the-job training and coaching to employees as needed.
  • Complete and administer documentation such as production sheets, pallet ticketing, job progressions, disciplinary actions, STOP cards, time and attendance records, accident reports, and process control sheets.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing setting (aluminum metal packaging background preferred), with at least 3 years in a supervisory or manager role.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline with two or more co-op or internship assignments in manufacturing may substitute for work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to address challenges individually and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles is a plus.
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions and think creatively.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and relate to diverse personalities.
  • Strong PC skills, including proficiency in Windows programs like Word and Excel.
  • Effective leadership skills, including conflict resolution, decision-making, and communication.
  • Career path potential toward plant management or corporate engineering.
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong understanding of machinery and equipment, with the ability to delegate when appropriate.
  • Commitment to quality and safety.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate for career opportunities.
  • Ability to work various shifts.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal training and development.
