About the role
Oliver Healthcare Packaging is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to lead our second-shift manufacturing team in Grand Rapids. This position is responsible for creating a safe, quality-focused, and high-performing work environment while ensuring customer requirements are met on time and within established cost expectations. The Manufacturing Supervisor will provide hands-on leadership on the production floor, coach and develop employees, resolve operational issues, and lead continuous-improvement efforts that reduce waste and increase efficiency.
Safety
- Identify and help eliminate unsafe conditions in the workplace.
- Model, communicate, and reinforce safe working behaviors.
- Help ensure applicable OSHA and local regulatory requirements are met, including training, documentation, and reporting.
Quality
- Ensure compliance with cGMP requirements and ISO 13485 quality-system standards.
- Coordinate timely training and confirm that operators are qualified to perform assigned work.
- Ensure quality concerns are quickly identified, contained, investigated, and resolved.
- Support customer-complaint investigations using the company’s corrective and preventive action procedures.
- Apply root-cause analysis to prevent quality problems from recurring.
Delivery
- Partner with Planning and Scheduling to coordinate production and meet customer delivery expectations.
- Communicate production priorities and ensure travelers and required documentation are complete and ready for production.
- Monitor production performance and proactively address issues that could affect delivery.
- Measure and reduce equipment and product changeover times.
Productivity and Continuous Improvement
- Review production and operating reports to identify and resolve manufacturing, maintenance, and workflow issues.
- Measure daily work-order performance and investigate unfavorable variances.
- Ensure manufacturing employees are trained on current standardized work.
- Lead continuous-improvement initiatives that reduce waste, control costs, and improve operational performance.
- Use lean manufacturing, root-cause analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies to improve processes.
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop second-shift manufacturing employees.
- Build employees’ technical, leadership, and communication capabilities.
- Use key performance indicators and management operating system standards to communicate expectations and progress.
- Foster a culture of open communication, thoughtful decision-making, teamwork, preparation, and accountability.
- Apply company policies and programs consistently in partnership with Human Resources.
Basic Qualifications
- Education in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering; printing technology; or a closely related discipline—or equivalent relevant experience.
- At least two years of manufacturing engineering and leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience leading teams or operational activities in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to use production data and mathematical concepts to assess performance and solve problems.
- Ability to manage complex, cross-functional projects.
- Knowledge of root-cause analysis, lean manufacturing, and process optimization.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S.
- Leadership experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience with medical-device or healthcare-packaging manufacturing.
- Familiarity with converting equipment, including slitting, pouch converting, printing, and rewinding.
Working Conditions and Requirements
- Frequent presence on the manufacturing floor.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to work second-shift hours and provide occasional evening or weekend support when business needs require it.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
