About the role

Tempe Milk Plant – work location: 1115 West Alameda Drive, Tempe, AZ 85282. This is a part‑time position on 1st shift, 10‑hour shifts: Sunday, Friday, Saturday 9 am‑7 pm (off Monday‑Thursday). The manager is seeking a Flex Shift Quality Assurance Lab Tech. There is a possibility of extension if additional coverage is needed, and a potential conversion to full‑time after 6 months.

As a Flex Shift Quality Assurance Lab Tech, you will ensure the quality and safety of products by conducting inspections of raw materials, monitoring production processes, performing tests to verify compliance with quality standards, documenting findings, reporting issues, and implementing corrective actions. Your attention to detail and commitment to excellence will help maintain the plant’s reputation for delivering top‑quality milk products.

Responsibilities

• Conduct quality checks on incoming raw materials and finished milk products.
• Perform regular inspections of production processes to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Monitor and document equipment calibration and maintenance.
• Collaborate with production teams to address any quality‑related issues promptly.
• Evaluate trends from test results and communicate these trends to employees and management.
• Implement and maintain Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Food Safety and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in internal audits and assist with external audits as needed.
• Record and analyze data and prepare reports on quality metrics; ensure daily records are kept and maintained.
• Drive continuous improvement, assist in maintaining a 6‑S rating of an “A”.
• Follow up on customer complaints and follow up with production.
• Implement quality control processes/testing to meet Safeway quality standards and ensure products are within specification.
• Any other project assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferable; high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year of QA experience.
• Previous experience in quality assurance or a similar role in food production preferred; candidates with microbiology or chemical laboratory experience are acceptable.
• Strong mindfulness and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with quality control procedures and regulations preferred.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Demonstrate ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and duties related to food safety and regulatory compliance.
• Effective communication and documentation skills.
• Flexibility to work the specified shift and occasionally on weekends if required.
• Good analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Able to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment with limited supervision.
• Proficient in Windows‑based PC programs.
• Lab test equipment/maintenance preferred.
• Some knowledge of HACCP/Food Safety preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
